The Manners Arms an old hunting lodge serving local seasonal dishes. Visit Woolsthorpe Manor birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton. This pretty Manor House is where Newton spent his childhood and later carried out his research when the plague closed Cambridge University. Haddon Hall Gardens, the gardens were created by Kathleen, wife of the 9th Duke of Rutland, in the 1930's.
She brought the gardens to life after 100 years of neglect and created the beauty we see now. The work continues under the present owner. In spite of the hard Derbyshire climate, many rare and interesting plants flourish and the roses are famous.
Nottinghamshire. D.H.Lawrence country the heritage centre and birthplace museum are a lasting tribute to our well-loved and controversial author. When Lawrence was growing up in Eastwood, this part of Nottinghamshire was dominated by the coal mining industry.
