Casita Musica is within easy walking distance of the charming and delightful Andalucian village of Lubrin in the province of Almeria. The village is very Spanish and nestles high in the Sierra Los Filabres some 2000feet above the well known beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha which are just 45 minutes away.
Lubrin is a small village of about 500 of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet. There are a number of Cafe/Bars that offer Tapas. Meson Molinos is a restaurant offering fine wines and a mouthwatering menu. Bar Lopez is located in Rambla Aljibe, which is one of the dozen or so hamlets in the Parish of Lubrin, where you can get a good wholesome 3 course Menu del Dias including wine for about 12 Euros
There are 3 Banks and the village shops include 2 Supermarkets, 3 Butchers, 3 Bakers (no Candlestick Makers!!) and an Ironmongers. You can buy anything from a pin to a Porsche( well not quite a Porsche). Market day is on a Wednesday when you can stock up with fresh fruit and vegetables on most days the fresh fish van comes up from the coast.
Life in Lubrin is a time warp and will remind us more senior citizens of an early childhood where family groups sit out on the streets on hot summer nights with children playing until the sun sets over the hill.
Where to go and what to do!
Lubrin is located about 1 hour cross country from Almeria Airport or 2 hours motorway/cross country from Alicante or Murcia Airports. The village is very Spanish and nestles high in the Sierra Los Filabres some 2000 feet above the well known beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha which are just 45 minutes away.
The more Spanish resorts of San Juan Torres and Aquilas (to the North) and Carboneras, Agua Marga and San Jose ( to the South) are about an hour away. These Spanish resorts, in Summer, are very much less crowded, especially mid-week, than Mojacar and Garrucha.
Places of Interest include Cuevas de Almanzora for its cave houses and Tabernas for its magnificent Desert National Park. At Tabernas is a Western Theme park on the site of the Clint Eastwood Movies!
The Cabo de Gata National Park is one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich coastal strips in the western Mediterranean and is the first Natural land and sea park in Andalucia. The drive takes just over an hour and the route down the mountain, via Nijar, is very dramatic. The park offers walks on marked trails and tracks amongst native scrub and grasses, amidst the scent of wild lemon balm and the distinctive aromas of curry plant and herbs. You are able to follow inland trails and coastline.
The ancient Andalusian city of Almeria (1 hour away)lies sheltered at the base of a bay, proudly dominated by the amazing Alcazaba, a huge Moorish citadel with three walled enclosures dating from 995. From the citadel visitors have a good view of the city’s most impressive and important Christian monument, the Cathedral, dating from 1524, designed more like a fortress than a church because of the need to defend it from pirate attacks.
The Cathedral contains numerous art treasures, including a tabernacle dating from the 18th century, designed by Ventura Rodriguez. With its interesting medieval architecture, Almeria’s old town is a delight to stroll through with its tranquil squares, archways and colonnades. The city also has a fascinating archaeological museum and unique cave dwellings in the hillside above the old gypsy quarter.
The Alhambra in Granada is a very popular place to visit by our guests. It takes just 2 hours to drive to Granada along the Almeria to Sevilla motorway with stunning views. The motorway skirts around Granada and the Alhambra car park is easily accessed. There is a shuttle bus that takes you from the Alhambra direct to the Plaza de Nueva where it’s a short walk to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel.
