Pretty village cottage near Quillan in the sunny South of France

If you like the combination of peace and quiet with beautiful surroundings and yet lots of activities to choose from, then you will love the cottage in Lasserre village. The only sounds at night are the crickets and an occasional owl; in the morning the “toot toot” of the visiting baker’s van and sometimes a group of ponies heading past for a trek up the hill. Yet within minutes of the cottage you can be walking or cycling in the hills, rafting on the river, swimming in a lake, shopping in lively local markets, tasting the local organic wine, or climbing up to a Cathar castle.

The cottage is equipped with everything you might need to feel completely at home, but there are bars and restaurants nearby for a meal out. The cottage has a through lounge/diner downstairs, with fully equipped kitchen. The lounge has English television and a DVD player with a selection of movies.

For chilly evenings, the wood-burning stove keeps the lounge and dining area cosy. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with lovely views over the hills, and a large twin bedroom. The bathroom has a shower, washbasin and wc. There are electric radiators in all rooms.

The house is at the edge of the village, on a small quiet square shared with neighbours. A folding table and chairs are provided so that you can sit in the square to enjoy a glass of wine or a meal in the sunshine. A “welcome pack” for your arrival includes tea, coffee, sugar and milk, breakfast cereal, bread and butter, and a bottle of the local wine for you to enjoy.

The village of Lasserre is 15 minutes’ drive away from the town of Quillan, with its shops, markets, bars and restaurants, and 15 minutes from Puivert where you can swim in the lake or visit the Cathar castle and museum.
