Lochend Cottage, Applecross

With no near neighbours, yet just a 10-minute walk to the sandy beach and civilised gastronomic offerings of Applecross, Lochend exudes an air of peace and tranquillity in its remote location on the shores of Loch a’ Mhuilinn.

This centrally heated, traditional stone-built Scottish cottage has been thoroughly restored and modernised to provide warm and comfortable self-catering accommodation for 2 guests. It offers a sitting room/diner with multi-fuelled stove to augment the central heating in deep winter and a good-sized double bedroom with king-sized 4-poster bed and views across the loch and sea to the Isle of Sky.

The kitchen is well-equipped an includes a washing machine, microwave, electric oven, fridge, freezer and all other home-from-home culinary equipment.

The bathroom offers a bath with overhead shower, basin with mirror light and WC.

The cottage sits within a low-walled garden. It faces the sunset and has good sized lawns, shrubs, a terrace with dining furniture and BBQ. Leave out some bread and jam in the evening and wait for the pine martin to appear for tea!

Loch a’ Mhuilinn, is noted for its rare flora and fauna including many rare orchids. Local wildlife includes eagles, eider ducks, Whooper swans, seals and otters.

There are many activities available to guests to fill a week or short break – and still come back for more. These include:

* Walking, with many designated walks along the coastline or up mountains
* Fishing for salmon, trout and sea trout. Permits are available locally.
* Sea fishing and Whale Watching trips
* Cycling around the Applecross peninsula with plenty of level roads but some good gradients for the enthusiast.
*Sea kayaking trips and escorted mountaineering days out can both be arranged in Applecross.

There are lots of day trips further afield to be enjoyed to villages such as Plocton, where Hamish McBeth was filmed or scenic glens such as Glen Elg or across the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Sky, as well as many historic buildings and castles.
