House in Marigot Bay, Castries, Saint Lucia

The White Turtle is situated in Marigot Bay, the picturesque small inlet famously used as a filming location for the popular childrens film ‘Dr Doolittle’. The house is a 15 minute walk from the main Marigot marina and neighbouring La Bas beach, and only a 5 minute stroll down to the secluded cove of Trou Roland. It is reached via a quiet road from the main bay, shared with a small number of other private residences and rental properties.

Living Dining

Swing into the driveway of the White Turtle and park beneath the red flowered flamboyant tree. The front door, reached up a short flight of steps, leads directly into an airy and spacious open plan living area. The entire first floor of the White Turtle is designed to create an indoor/outdoor entertaining space, to maximise the stunning sea views from the wrap around terrace. The high ceilings and large sail fans ensure a cool relaxing interior, even during the heat of the Caribbean midday sun. A 40 inch plasma screen television and DVD player are provided, together with a range of films and books to relax with. The sound system, connected to an ipod dock, has additional speakers set into the wall of the swimming pool deck, so that you can sunbathe and swim to your favourite tunes without worrying about getting your mp3 player wet! An additional upstairs toilet is conveniently situated next to the front door.

Folding glass doors open out from the lounge area onto a wide veranda, both furnished with stylish cream rattan sofas – perfect for enjoying an evening sunset cocktail gazing out at the ocean. Walk along the terrace, overlooking the azure blue swimming pool, and watch the local finches land beside you and chatter for attention.

Double doors lead back inside to the dining area, where the table and seating for up to six people provides an elegant setting for long, sociable, meals together. Under the large terrace window there is a sleek red modern sofabed which can sleep two additional guests. The well-equipped kitchen is separated from the main living space by a breakfast bar, which has two comfortable bar stools. A large fridge freezer ensures that you will never run out of cold drinks or ice for your gin and tonic! The black polished concrete kitchen surround provides plenty of space for food preparation.

The high quality kitchen equipment supplied includes an electric oven, 4-ring gas hob, dishwasher, chic Morphy Richards Accents matching kettle, coffee maker and toaster, a microwave, and a full range of cutlery, glassware, and tableware. There is even a picnic set and cool bag in case you want to spend a day out at one of the beautiful St. Lucia beaches. Adjacent to the kitchen there is a small utility room, with a front loading washing machine and an additional utility sink for rinsing out swimming costumes and beach towels. Steps from the back door lead down into a drying area, where there are two planters filled with fresh culinary herbs that you can use when cooking.

Bedrooms

The master bedroom is pretty special! This room redefines luxury, with space to spare. Stretch out on the American super king size four poster bed, and let yourself unwind on super soft 400 thread count designer egyptian cotton bedlinen, supported by the deluxe memory foam mattress.

Clean white walls, the cool tiled floor and a large ceiling sail fan create a fresh airy feel, whilst light streams in through the floor to ceiling windows and glass doors that open onto a private garden balcony. Original wall art, created for the White Turtle, co-ordinates with the aqua colour scheme, and complements the dark wood furniture. The large adjoining walk-in closet contains a drinks fridge, guest safe, and additional space for luggage storage.

The versatile spacious second bedroom can be configured as either one queen size or two single beds, all furnished again with 400 thread count designer eqyptian cotton bed linen and with pocket sprung mattresses. Two large closets provide plenty of space for clothing and accessories. Double glass doors open onto a small balcony, from which steps lead down to the main garden and to the pool deck.

Bathroom

The large fully tiled bathroom is a place to relax, with a walk in rainfall shower, separate full length bath, and hand basin topped with a well lit mirror. Luxurious white deep pile cotton bath and hand towels are provided, and there is convenient power point for electric shavers. A hairdryer with diffuser is located in the master bedroom. Double glass doors lead from the bathroom to the outdoor shower area, where you can step onto the White Turtle mosaic and rinse down after a swim. There is a separate toilet located next to the bathroom.

Outdoors

One of the main reasons to come to St. Lucia is the stunning scenery – and the White Turtle has been designed to allow guests to experience the beautiful abundance of the island’s nature. Planters surround the house, filled with vibrant local flowers including frangipani, gardenia and sweet lime – picked for their fragrance. Paths wind down though the garden from the upper and lower levels of the house down to the pool deck. The garden is surrounded by trees, including the local ‘flamboyant’ – named for its bright scarlet flowers. A track leads through the grounds to stone steps down to the local pebble beach, Tru Roland – great for snorkelling, hermit crab spotting or a beach BBQ.

Of course – what better way to enjoy the garden and the gorgeous ocean view than lying back on the cushions of your sunlounger next to the sparkling 35 foot long bespoke swimming pool. Large shallow steps lead into the pool, which slopes to a depth of 8 feet underneath the contemporary feature waterfall. Underwater lighting illuminates the water so that you can float and gaze at the stars on a night time swim. The pool is surrounded by decking, furnished with a built in brick BBQ and patio table with seating and sunshade for outdoor dining, and with built in speakers linked to the house sound system.
