Hisa Brdo
Hisa Brdo has been renovated to a high standard in order to accommodate modern day living whilst retaining its traditional features and charm.
Brdo has 10 rooms in total: 2 large double bedrooms (triple if required), 1 single bedroom, 2 upstairs bathrooms both fitted with showers (1 is an ensuite), as well as a large chill out area on the landing which can double as another sleeping area if required. Laundry room, 1 downstairs bathroom with bath, sitting room/dining area, another smaller living room which adjoins the kitchen.
The kitchen is in a traditional style, complete with wood burning stove. However, the kitchen also has a separate electric oven and a 5 ring gas hob. There is a microwave, kettle, large fridge/freezer, toasted sandwich maker, food blender etc. The kitchen has a dining table that comfortably seats 5 people but the dining area in the sitting room will seat 8 people. Off the kitchen there is a laundry room with a 8kg capacity washing machine. There is a large clothes line in the back garden for drying clothes and a clothes airer for wet days.
There is a large garden to the rear of the house which boasts several mature apple and pear trees. At the end of the garden, 100 metres below, the river Baca meanders its way through the valley. Directly to the rear of the house there is a herb and salad garden as well as a patio and bbq area. The first floor has a balcony with another patio area which has spectacular views of the evening sunset, don’t worry if you are busy with the bbq you can still see it from the lower patio area!
The house has 20 acres of forest and if you are fit and adventurous, you can take a steep walk down from the garden to the Baca River or you can drive there in about 5 minutes. Mountain biking, hiking, trekking and fishing are all possible right from the doorstep.
Grahovo is a small, sleepy, rural village surrounded by mountains and forestry. It is unspoilt as it is slightly off the main tourist track but still allows you to access all the main tourist attractions and activities.
This area is steeped in history from the 1st and 2nd World Wars, there are many local walks where you can explore bunkers and visit monuments. You can visit Slovenia's widest tree in the nearby village of Rut.
As regards to things to do in the Baca and Soca Valleys, well, the list is long....paragliding, fly fishing (Slovenia is world famous for its paragliding and fly fishing) canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, trekking, hiking and hunting to name a few.
Tolmin, located in the Soca Valley, is the closest principal town and is a 16 kilometre drive from Grahovo. There you will find Supermarkets, Adventure Sports Centre, cinema etc. A trip to the nation’s capital, Ljubijana, is a 70 kilometre drive away or, if you fancy a day trip to Lake Bohinj, you can drive there in approximately one hour. Alternatively, you can catch the car train from Podbrdo which cuts through the mountains and gets you to Bohinj in 7 minutes. Bled is a further 15 minutes drive from Bohinj.
However you choose to spend your time, you are guaranteed to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, flora and fauna of this beautiful area.
