Ty Hir: 2 rural gîtes in central Brittany
Welcome to Ty Hir, our holiday home in beautiful Brittany. Ty Hir means 'long house' in Breton. It is the perfect place to escape from the rat race!
Located in the peaceful countryside of central Finistère, the property is close to the Parc naturel régional d'Armorique and mystical Huelgoat. Within easy reach of our home are sandy beaches, rugged coastlines, historic cities and towns, moors, rivers, lakes, parish closes, megalithic sites and much more - there is something for everyone!
Ty Hir is comprised of 2 independent adjoining stone buildings:
- The Petit Longère which has 2 bedrooms & 1 bathroom (sleeps 2 - 4)
- The Grand Longère which has 3 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms (sleeps 6 - 7)
Rental rates start at £240 per week. All bed linen is included in the cost of the rental; this includes a sheet, duvet, duvet cover, pillows and pillow cases for each bed. Mountain bikes are available for guests to use for free.
The properties can be booked separately or together. The accommodation is suitable for couples, groups and families. All bedrooms are on the first floor but there are clic clac sofa beds available on the ground floor in each property if required.
The gîtes are south-facing and are surrounded by a large garden with outdoor furniture and BBQs, ideal for relaxing in. The properties feature exposed stonework, beams, wooden floors and open fireplaces with inset wood burners. They are simply furnished with fully equipped kitchens and contain everything you should need for your stay. There is parking on-site.
A discount with Brittany Ferries is available for all those booking the gîtes at Ty Hir.
Ideal for walking, cycling and mountain biking, the area is a nature lover's paradise. There are bikes available for our guests. The river l'Ellez is a short stroll from the gîtes. Trails can be found close by in the Monts d'Arrée and the magical forest of Huelgoat. Being on a migration route, Finistère is a great place for birdwatching. The area is also home to a population of beavers.
There are many angling possibilities in close proximity to Ty Hir including salmon and trout fishing. The St Michele reservoir and river Aulne are both a short drive away and sea fishing is an easy possibility.
For those with an interest in architecture there are many parish closes in the area. There are a number of Petites cités de caractère in Finistère and many fascinating megalithic sites within an easy drive. For music fans one of the largest music events in Europe is held in nearby Carhaix-Plouguer. It is also an ideal base for house hunting.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Huelgoat and Carhaix-Plouguer where you can treat yourself to a Breton crêpe and some cider after your exertions, whether they be walking, cycling, fishing or sightseeing!
