On the edge of the Peak District, Denford makes an excellent base for exploring the hills and valleys of the national park. Leek is just 3 miles away and has all the traditional features of a market town including many pubs and eating establishments, and weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is a great base if you are interested in exploring railways and canals. We are situated close to both the main line and the Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal and the garden of the property features a derelict lock chamber once part of the canal.
The Churnet Valley Railway is just down the road at Cheddleton and a lovely round trip can be made by walking along the towpath beside the canal to Froghall and returning by steam train. We are also only half an hour from the Foxfield Railway. It is a 20 minute drive to the historic market town of Cheadle with its famous Pugin church, and a similar distance to Stoke-on-Trent and its many Potteries (including pottery museums and famous name factory shops). For those who are looking for more of a thrill, Alton Towers is only 20 minutes drive away. Ashbourne, Buxton and Macclesfield are all only half an hour’s drive away.
