Exclusive and sumptuous self catering accommodation on the Isle of Harris
This luxurious and individual house is superbly located to take full advantage of the world class beaches on the West Coast of the Isle of Harris as well as for exploring the island and enjoying the outdoors.
The house is extremely well designed and furnished with plenty of space to relax and enjoy your holiday. Set in half an acre of ground it has 3 large bedrooms and bathrooms, large far infra-red sauna, open plan living area and large utility room. The house is heated by wonderful underfloor heating.
Views from the house are truly amazing looking out over the ocean with a panorama encompassing Chaipaval, Taransay and the North Harris Hills. There is so much to do one visit is never enough! Only a mile from the fabulous Isle of Harris golf course (play included in rental) and just a few hundred yards from Borve beach with a number of other fabulous and quiet beaches within a stones throw. There are a wealth of other outdoor activites to be enjoyed from walking, fishing, watersports, boat trips (for example St Kilda, the Shiants, Taransay and other islands and inland waters). The island has more than its share of interesting history and heritage to explore from the standing stones in Harris to the superlative Callanish, the ancient Borve Dun in the croft land behind the house and the well preserved Broch at Carloway, traditional black houses, St Clements Church at Rodel and many others.
In the summer the machair is carpeted with a beautiful array of native plants, which is beautiful to see, and attracts all sorts of butterfly, bee and insect life. The island is a dream for nature, otters have been seen at Borve and also Scarista nearby, and bird life (corncrakes, eagles, buzzards, oyster catchers, gannets, cormorants, fullmars, gulls and many more) and for photographers and artists the light is extraordinary.
There are a number of wonderful artists on the island with galleries open to the public including Willie and Moira Fulton (Ardbuidhe at Drinishader) and Margarita Williams (Holmasaig at Quidinish). Harris Tweed is alive and well on the island and many of the artist weavers evoke the colours and textures of the island in their wonderful cloth like Donald John Mackay at Luskentyre and you can see ready made garments and knitwear at the Harris Knitwear Company at Grosebay.
