Riad Anaïssouira, situated in the heart of the port city of Essaouira in Morocco, is a nice three-story residential building, newly rebuilt in 2009. It houses 6 to 12 people and is ideal for 2 to 3 families. Total floor space: 260m2. 7 rooms including 4 bedrooms with adjoining toilet-equipped bathrooms. Dining room and good-sized kitchenette. 3 double and 2 single beds, 4 extra beds, 1 cot. Refrigerator with deep-freeze compartment. Microwave oven and regular oven, toaster and barbecue.TV set and DVD/DIVX player.

The 1st floor, highlighted by its typically Moroccan arcades, consists of a kitchenette, dining area, patio and a living room with a functional fireplace. The 2nd and 3rd floor have each a small living area and 2 bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms and toilets. On the top floor, the roof terrace has its own cooking facilities. Rates from 550 to 1000Euros per week according to number of people and season.

Essaouira, formerly called Mogador by the Portuguese who in the 16th century built the actual fortress, is a charming mid-sized seaside town with a very lively port. Situated just outside the old city walls, it is teeming with activity: fishing boats going and coming, fishermen repairing their boats and their nets, selling their fish etc. All through the day, you can buy freshly caught fish, raw or cooked, in one of the little stalls that border the sea.

One thing you never tire of is strolling through the Moroccan markets, the famous “Souks” where you can buy all sorts of handicraft, spices and other food stock.
After the noise and excitement of Marrakech, you will fully appreciate the relaxing atmosphere of Essaouira. And contrary to other areas in Morocco, here you will never suffer from the heat: the average temperatures are 18°C in winter and 24°C in summer!

Before leaving Essaouira, don’t forget to visit one of the local Hamams (the Moroccan version of the Turkish bath) where at an additional charge you can also get yourself a delightfully relaxing massage.
