Sanddollar Is?
'Sanddollar' is our haven in Vanuatu, located at Pangona Estate on the Island of Efate, outside of Port Vila. It was shown to us by our friend Glen Craig (First National), and despite not 'ticking any of the boxes' we had at that time, we all fell in love with the idyllic property immediately.
We have spent the time between 2006 to the present in fostering and working to the creation of a quality island style Haven, which provides a multitude of contrasting views, experiences and activities.
It is our second Home and Family. The property is tended by our Ni-Vanuatuan Families. A stay at Sanddollar provides you with an insight to a true island lifestyle.
As a part of our desire to play a larger part in our local community we rent the property as Short Term Holiday Accommodation, on a self catering basis. The minimum length of stay is one week (however everyone who has been there has told us that this is not nearly long enough).
Where is Sanddollar?
SandDollar is located on the island of Efate, approximately 25 minutes from the Capital Port Vila, by car. Holiday makers would generally hire a vehicle, from the selection of car hire companies in Port Vila. Guidance can be provided in this regard, and your specified vehicle can be picked up from the airport, with a detailed map and directions to SandDollar. The use of a vehicle allows greater freedom to explore the sights in the area, and to spend time shopping or going to restaurants in Port Vila.
Who Are We ?
We are two New Zealand sisters, Jill and Anne, along with our husbands, Neil and Greg. Our passion includes travelling and experiencing the places and cultures of the world.
Anne and Greg lived & worked in Papua New Guinea in the early 1980's for about five years, and developed a deep fondness for the Pacific, its many cultures & tropical living. On returning to NZ to raise a family, the pacific would often be talked about in the extended family. When Jill & Neil vacationed in Vanuatu in 2004, the rest is history.
We all live in New Zealand, as we all have business's there, but travel to Vanuatu nearly every month. We have a staff of four Ni-Vanuatu, from three related families. Since working for us they have also become a part of our family, and pictured at the top, we are all building them a 'longhouse' on the property.
Along with developing Sanddollar, we plan to assist our immediate area by providing, facilities for our community over time, to enhance and enrich its people and culture.
Sea Front Fare (Bungalow)
Sea Front Fare is located towards the front of the property. A grassy area lays between you and the ocean.
The sea can be seen and heard from your room, lulliing away the afternoon siesta time or helping you off to sleep at night.
Your Seafront fare accommodation consists of a very comfortable bed, draped in a cotton muslin net. Superior quality linen is used on the king sized bed. Two super single day beds can be made-up for a great nights sleep.
Island style furniture has been designed by the owner to enhance the room. The selected pieces have been hand crafted locally using local timbers.
Sea View Fare (Bungalow)
Seaview Fare is set back from the seashore behind a veil of tropical garden.
The sea can be seen and heard from your room, with the added bonus of your own garden space highlighted by a table and chairs under the cool of the trees. Your fare is peaceful and secluded, where you can relax spending time on your deck or have a siesta enjoying the breeze.
Seaview Fare is furnished using some pieces that have been specifically designed for the room, made with local timbers by local craftsmen.
Sand Dollar boasts superior quality linen on very comfortable beds. You will spend your nights sleeping soundly under a cotton muslin net.
'Haus Wind' Kitchen & Lounge Area.
The 'haus wind', a communal fare, is located just metres from the waters' edge.
The haus wind has a communal kitchen and lounge area. This is the ideal place to relax, read your book, play games on the table, which is big enough to comfortably seat 10 people, or spread out and socialize.
The kitchen has cooking facilities. A large BBQ, a convection microwave (great for anything from a roast to a chocolate cake), a panini grill (useful for cooking pikelets or fritters as well as a steak or garlic bread) an electric wok, and a smoothie (or daiquiri) maker!
Sit back on the comfortable lounge chairs and watch the sun set on another day in paradise!
Swimming Pools.
We have two swimming pools, the larger of which is situated adjacent to the coast, where you can lounge in the warm waters and watch the fantastic sunsets. A smaller plunge pool is situated behind the Sea Front Fare.
When Should We Go ?
