Locally you have access to three of the Lake Districts most spectacular lakes, the small and remote Loweswater is a peaceful haven, where strolls around the lake can be enjoyed even by the least energetic stroller, walk through Holme Wood, and catch site of red squirrels and the more shy deer that make their home in the wood.
Passing Loweswater you come to Crummock Water , largest of the three Buttermere lakes. With it's splendid views down towards Fleetwith Pike and Great Gable, it is one of the great views of the Lake District.
Beyond Crummock you come to the village of Buttermere, nestling amongst towering hills that after rain, cascading waterfalls adorn the hillside.
Further on beyond Buttermere the high Fells of the Scafell range are accessed from Seathwaite, a tiny hamlet guarding the gateway to this heart of the lake district, with its many challenges for everyone who aspires to walk on the high Fells.
