Old Stone Mill on the River
Le Moulin de Pattus is a beautiful 17th century stone watermill in the heart of the Gard countryside in the sunny south of France. It lies on the Vidourle River nearest to the pretty village Salinelles and 3km from the picturesque medieval town of Sommieres, which is half an hour from the cities of Nimes and Montpellier - each with their own airport.
Sandy beaches of the Mediterranean are about 35 mins away. The mill has a heated swimming pool, its own river beach with 2 person kayaks, games room (pool, table tennis, table football), mini football pitch, and an adventure playground for young children.
The area surrounding the mill is idyllic countryside - superb for peaceful walks, cycle riding (bikes provided), and fishing. The mill itself has 20,000 sq m of land, and is adjacent to a lovely stone bridge across the river, overlooked by the mills own large stone terrace. Two sections of the mill can be rented weekly as 3 bedroom apartments (each sleeping 6-8). Long weekend breaks are also available off season.
Attractions nearby include:
Sommieres market - Saturday market oozing character and charm
Pont du Gard - incredible Roman 3 tier stone aqueduct
La Grande Motte - miles of sandy beaches, also scuba diving
Aigues Mortes - ancient walled town, full of character
Nimes Arene - miniature version of the Coliseum but better preserved
